ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Gaia Maria Walicka is a Melbourne based interdisciplinary artist practicing primarily in jewellery and object-based practice. With a background in theatre, she studied Visual Arts at CAE, prior to completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Gold and Silversmithing) at RMIT in 2019. She was selected as a finalist for the graduate exhibition Fresh! in 2020 at Craft Victoria and was the recipient of the 2020 Future Leaders Award. Her practice investigates the boundaries of the body and its entanglement with the external world, in doing so she considers the themes of contemporary bodies, identity and the in-between. Her practice is an ongoing inquiry into the relationship between self and world.

Gaia Maria Walicka acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land the Bunurong Boon Wurrung and the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin Nation and pays respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.
